Giant Communications and JBN Telephone Company ROAD TO GLORY presented by Giant Mobile on the MSC Sports Radio Network.

2A Girls State Championship in Manhattan:  Moundridge 62, Doniphan West 51

Playing their third game in three days and coming off a double-overtime exhausting semifinal win on Friday night, the Doniphan West girls would come up short of winning their second state title in three years. Moundridge set the tone with a pair of three-pointers to start the game and they never trailed winning their sixth state title and first since 2011 to cap a 24-2 season.

Doniphan West dug out of the early deficit and was within 31-28 at halftime. Thanks in part to a trio of triples by Courtney Johnson. However, Moundridge used the 20-7 third quarter to grow the lead up to 18 and didn't let the Mustangs any closer than nine points the rest of the night as D-West couldn't quite find the energy to muster another comeback. Johnson finished with 21 points in the title match and the sophomore had a team high 44 in the three games in Manhattan.

One night after being the star with 19 points and 9 rebounds and going 6-6 from the line in the overtimes and hitting a pair to win the game with 10 seconds left, Katie Johnson added 12 points and 8 boards while her senior starting teammate Brennah Edie added 9 points, seven of those coming in the first quarter to keep D-West within 19-13 at the end fo one frame.

Belle Smith scored six points after posting double digits in the first two games and Andi Foster finished with four points after having a pair of double doubles in the first two state contests. Donpihan West was outrebounded by six and gave up 11 second chance points while having 12 turnover and not making any triples in the second half. They end the season with a 19-6 record and third top four state finish in the past four years, including a pair of state title games while making the jump to Class 2A this year.

Final wrap presented by Sabetha Auto Parts your local NAPA dealer.
