Maybe a little rust was expected after not playing a game the last two weeks, but when Doniphan West failed to recover the opening kickoff and gave Burlingame an extra possession, it was a sign of how the night would go. After the early mistake that spotted the Bearcats a 6-0 lead, the Mustangs would turn the ball over four more times before seeing their playoff hopes fade in a 46-12 loss against Burlingame.

Despite having to punt after a 10-play offensive opening drive, D-West forced a three-and-out and then had Trent Spiker break a 53-yard touchdown run to tie the score at six. However, Burlingame would then score on three straight drives before forcing a second fumble in the quarter and getting another touchdown with one second left in the first half to take a commanding 32-6 advantage.

The Mustangs finished with 260 yards rushing while Spiker was 3-8 passing for another 30 yards. Spiker ran for 140 yards on 25 carries while Hunter Smith added 90 yards on the ground. Spiker tossed a touchdown pass of 26 yards to Lafe Blevins to pull within 40-12 in the third quarter. Blevins is one of only two seniors on the team, with the other, Fletcher Penny, earning Giant Communications "Lineman of the Game" honors for his play on the defensive line. D-West (3-3) needed a win, or a loss by less than 16 points to make the 8-Man D1 Playoffs, and instead will now play a game for pride to conclude their season next week.

Burlingame improved to 6-2 on the season and got a big night from Wyatt Ledom who ran for 164 yards on 19 carries and scored twice. Garrett Robison caught a pair of touchdown passes and also ran a 69 yard reverse for a TD in the second quarter. The Bearcats did not turn the ball over and had 386 total yards of offense, including 296 rushing on 36 carries (7.8 yards/carry) and secured a second place district finish and home playoff game next week against Lincoln.
