Neither game was as close as the first meeting during the Twin Valley League Tournament, but the results were the same as the D-West girls and Wetmore boys improved their 1A Regional seeding by completing a season sweep on Tuesday night.

GIRLS = Doniphan West 57, Wetmore 43

The visiting Mustangs led 7-1 and held Wetmore without a field goal for more than four minutes to start the game.  However, the Cardinals trailed only 9-7 after one quarter and scored the final four points of the first half to pull within 22-18.

Yet, this game was decided in the third period as D-West went on a 13-0 run out of the locker room and finished the third quarter with a 19-5 advantage.  Wetmore had turnover problems that the Mustangs turned into transition offense with eight of the 24 Cardinals miscues coming in the third frame.

MaKinley Smith of Doniphan West helped put the game away by exploding with 16 of her game high 25 points in the fourth and Heidi Leach added 14 points with Kinlee Whetstine knocking down the only three Mustangs treys of the night to finish with nine points.  D-West moved ahead of Wetmore in the Twin Valley League and pulled even overall with a 10-10 record, but used the head-to-head wins to gain the number two seed in Regionals next week and have a chance to beat Troy Thursday and post thier first winning record since joining the TVL.

Wetmore was led by Reagan Osterhaus with 14 points while Taylor Fillmore added 10 and Campbell Brown had all eight of her points in the fourth quarter.  The loss ended a four-game win streak for the Cardinals, who had won seven of their last nine but end the regular season at 10-10.

BOYS = Wetmore 48, Doniphan West 41

This game was a tale of two halves as Doniphan West never trailed in the first two quarters and used an 8-0 run to start the second period which produced a 17-7 lead.  However, Wetmore answered with a 14-0 run to begin the second half and won the third quarter 22-2 to put the game away.

Kael McQueen erupted for 15 of his 18 points in the final two quarters for Wetmore, while Braden Henry added 11 and Joel Hutfles had 10 before being one of four players to foul out in the contest.  The win gave Wetmore a 7-12 record and moved them from the fifth seed to the fourth seed, which means now a home game against Troy next week in 1A Regionals.

Doniphan West was playing their first game with Derek Shelton replacing Jeff Savage as head coach and got 11 points from Cooper Clark and 10 by Trent Spiker before falling to 2-17 on the season.
