For the 28th time in school history the Centralia Panther volleyball team is headed back to the state tournament after winning their home sub-state tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers were the No. 1 seed and opened up the day with a two-set win over Hanover 25-12, 25-16.
That put Centralia into the championship, where the Panthers again won easily this time over Waverly 25-11, 25-8.
The Panthers head into the state tournament at Emporia with a record of 42-0 as the top overall seed, and will open up the tournament Friday morning against Otis-Bison at 11:00.
In the second sub-state at Centralia the Frankfort Wildcats fell just short of reaching the state tournament, falling to Beloit-St. John’s/Tipton in the championship in two games after taking down Valley Falls in three sets in the opening round.
