In a game that featured eight lead changes, Frankfort made a late stop on fourth down at thier own 14-yard line to and knocked off the undefeated Lebo Wolves 46-40 in a battle of state ranked 8-Man Division Two teams. The Wildcats, who did not play their final three games of the regular season, improved to 7-1 with their seventh straight win and will meet TVL foe Hanover (9-0) for the first time this season in the Sub State semifinals this Friday.
Frankfort led 18-14 at haltime and the game was tied at 40 with just under eight minutes to play before the final score came on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Corneilson to Aiden Gerstner with 5:36 remaining. Then the Wildcats got a huge takeaway and held on for the quarterinal win. Cornelison passed for 134 yards and two scores – both to Gerstner who had 125 receiving yards. Ethan Armstrong rushed for 158 yards and two scores and Cornelison added a pair of rushing touchdowns.
Frankfort Coach Nick Anderson has his alma-mater in the state semifinals for the first time since transitioning to 8-Man in 2008. Frankfort will host Hanover in the 8-Man Division Two east semifinal this week after Hanover won easily 48-0 in an undefeated matchup aginst Colony Crest. Hanover led 42-0 after one quarter in that game and has beaten Frankfort four times in the past two years, ending their previous two seasons.
