The 2020 high school spring sports season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak and because of that we at the MSC Sports Radio Network have decided to salute area athletes that were expected to be the top returners in their respective sports.
For Valley Heights sophomore Emma Yungeberg, she was expected to be one of the top throwers in track and field after last year claiming a state title in the javelin as a freshman.
She claimed the state title with a throw of 129 feet, 11 inches while also claiming seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus.
As a freshman she also set two school records in both the shot put and the javelin as she set the shot put record with a throw of 40 feet, 9 inches, before following that up with the javelin record with a toss of 133 feet, 7 inches.
Among all freshman in the country Yungeberg unofficially ranked sixth in the shot put while she also placed in the top three of each event she competed in.
Fortunately for Yungeberg she still has two more years to build her accolades and will look to get back to the state meet next year for the Mustangs.
