There’s a saying throughout sports that big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games.

For the ACCHS girls’ basketball team that was exactly the case last week as senior Jaycee Ernzen delivered two big-time performances against two state-ranked opponents.

She opened up her week with her best game of the season in a win over previously 2A No. 5 Jackson Heights, pouring in 25 points knocking down three 3-pointers and hitting 10-of-13 free throws.

Ernzen followed that up with 16 more points in a near upset of 2A No. 3 Jeff County North on Friday and is now averaging right at 14 points per game.

On the season she is also shooting 32 percent from long range, while shooting 72 percent from the free throw line.

She was named a first team all-Big 7 League selection last season, and is thriving once again in the Tigers first year back in the Northeast Kansas League.

Ernzen in the Tigers will look to finish the season strong and make a run at sub-state with a current 11-6 record with three games remaining in the regular season.
