Joseph Kunkel & Andrew Woods
|
For the first time since 2013 the Hiawatha Red Hawks flew to a Big Seven League win beating Royal Valley 21-0 to avenge a 61-6 loss to the Panthers last year.
New Head Coach, Ted Brown got the Red Hawks rolling one game into his tenure and leading the way on the field for Coach was the play of duo Joseph Kunkel and Andrew Woods. The senior quarterback, Kunkel appeared to establish a favorite target in week one finding Woods four times and three of them for touchdowns on plays of 78, 14 and 52 yards. Kunkel finished 5-8 on the night for 189 yards with three touchdowns, while Woods caught four passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns. The sophomore Woods with his nights set to school records for most receiving yards in a single game and touchdowns.
The duo was also part of a Red Hawk defense that recorded their first shutout since 2007 as Kunkel notched four tackles and a pass defense, while Woods recorded two tackles and a pass defense.
The wave of emotion is high for Hiawatha to start the football season after the week one win and Coach Brown with his duo of Kunkel and Woods and the rest of the crew look to string that momentum into the next week and rest of the season.
