JCN Lady Chargers Cross Country Team

They've been charging to great individual and team performances all season at a multiple cross country meets and the regional meet wasn't any different for the Lady Chargers of Jefferson County North cross country team.
Behind four top 10 finishers and all seven runners finishing in the top 24 at regionals the Lady Chargers paced their way to an easy regional title, as a team qualified for the Class 2A state cross country meet for the second straight year. The top five scores that totaled the Chargers points on the day were all from top 13 individual finishes.
With squad of seven that features a lone senior, three juniors, a sophomore and two freshman, it was junior, Mallory Kramer that lead the way at regionals with a second place finish on the day (16:27.07). Fifth and sixth place was then captured by the Lady Chargers next with junior, Laramie Leakey (16:58.99) and freshman, Carissa McAfee (17:34.86) nabbing those spots, respectively. Chargers grabbed one other top 10 finisher as junior, Abbie Weishaar took home an individual finish of ninth (17:42.81).
The great performances didn't stop with the top 10 finishers for the Chargers as sophomore, Jacinta Priest finished thirteenth (18:18.95), freshman, Savannah Lane tallied a 21st place finish (18:53.26), while senior, Jordyn Mize grabbed a 24th place finish at regionals (19:00.22).
Success has come for the Lady Chargers all season with multiple top team and individual finishes at cross country invites.
Lady Chargers registered a first place team finish at the Troy and Jackson Heights Invites this year, while placing second at the Delaware Valley League meet and Holton Invite. The Troy Invite may have been the big highlight as the top 10 was particularly all Chargers with a 1-2-3-4 finish individually, while also grabbing sixth, seventh and eighth place finishes, also. Kramer, Leakey, McAfee and Weishaar took home the 1-2-3-4 finish at the Troy Invite, with Savannah Lane, Jordyn Mize and Molly Bassette taking sixth through eighth, respectively.
The Jackson Heights Invite, featured four top 10 Charger finishes as familiar faces were seen at the top for the Lady Chargers. Kramer again led the way with a second place finish, while Leaky and McAfee placed third and fifth, respectively. Mize rounded out the top 10 performers for the Chargers as she registered a seventh place finish.
Both the Holton Invite and the DVL league meet say multiple top 10 performers for the Lady Chargers, to help them to second place team finishes. At the league meet it was all top 26 finishers for the Lady Chargers (Kramer--2nd; Leakey--9th; McAfee--10th; Mize--16th; Lane--21st; Priest--24th and Bassette--26th).
The Lady Chargers look to make plenty of noise at the state meet in Wamego coming up on Saturday improving upon their eleventh place team finish from last season with squad featuring experience and youth.
