Hiawatha Boys Track Team
|
Winning one track meet against other great teams is great in its self, but sweeping the regular season is quite impressive and that feat was accomplished by the Hiawatha Red Hawk boys track team as they won all seven regular season track competitions this season, including the Big Seven League title last week.
The Red Hawks last week claimed the Big Seven League title for the tenth time in school history and were spear headed by five first place finishes on the events on the day. Conner Bigham paced the way continuing his strong season winning the 800 meter run and high jump League titles, while Brendan Steele won the long jump, Quentin Overdick claimed the discus title and the 4x800 meter relay team grabbed the gold.
Both Bigham and Overdick have been at the top of the Red Hawk performances throughout the season and Bigham won the high jump and 800 meter run in six of the seven meets this year, while Overdick won the discus in all seven meets this season, while also winning the javelin a few times, too. The 4x800 relay team has been quite consistent with first place finishes for the Red Hawks, too as the team as consisted of Conner Bigham, Brandt Houk, Tyler Boeckman, Ryker Smith and Brenda Steele throughout the year.
Both Steele and Houk have won other events this year including the 400 meter dash for Steele and the 1600 and 3200 meter runs for Houk. While, Shawn Green and Bryce Oldridge also claimed first place showings for the Red Hawks this year in the javelin and shot put, respectively.
Plenty of top three finishes and top notch showings have led Hiawatha to the seven track meet wins this season and they have their sights set on Regionals this Friday and then the State competition.
