Wade Gassmann & Spencer Walker
|
The racquets were hot last week for the Atchison Redmen tennis duo of Wade Gassmann and Spencer Walker as they used their team chemistry and skill to post an 8-0 week, last week in competition.
Last week started off at the DeSoto Invite for the duo and they would lead the performances for Atchison winning the Doubles #1 competition by going 3-0 in competition. Gassmann and Walker dispensed Lansing with relative ease winning the match 8-2, but the matches against Ottawa and DeSoto proved to be tougher. The Redmen doubles team grinded out 8-7 (10-8) and 8-7 (9-8) wins over both teams, beating Ottawa and DeSoto, respectively by those marks.
Riding momentum from earlier this week Wade and Spencer continued to roll at the Lafayette Invite registering a 5-0 day, winning the Doubles #1 competition. The duo took down Benton, Hiawatha and Maryville with matches of 8-3, 8-0 and 8-2, respectively and had their toughest matches against Lafayette and Savannah winning 8-5 and 8-6, respectively.
With the 8-0 week last week and a win on Monday night against Hiawatha in a dual matchup, Gassman and Walker sit at 15-4 on the season. Gassmann and Walker each also registered singles wins in the dual with Hiawatha on Monday.
Riding a high both Gassmann and Walker look to continue their strong season on the courts for Atchison with the goal of a return trip to the Class 4A State competition where they were last year.
