Sacred Heart Girls and Boys Win Conference Titles

(KLZA)-- Falls City Sacred Heart brought home the championship plaque and medals for both girls and boys from the 2015 Pioneer Conference Tournament finals at Wymore Saturday. 

The boys won a hard-fought game from Lourdes Central Catholic in Nebraska City 48-45 in a game that saw the lead change 10 times in the game including six times in the fourth quarter.  The games was also tied six times. 

Sacred Heart senior Logan Scheitel scored 20 points, making six, 3-point baskets in the title game. He also had 9 rebounds.  Austin Malone had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Bryan Jorn also had 10 points for Sacred Heart.  

The Knights 6’8” senior Noah Vasa had 21 points and 16 rebounds in the game.  Sacred Heart is now 15-4 on the season, ranked 3rd in Class D-2.  The Knights are 16-5 and ranked in the top 10 in class D-1.

The D-2 top ranked Sacred Heart girls avenged a December overtime loss with a 55-38 win against the Friend Bulldogs.  The Irish pick up their 20th win of the year against just two losses.  

Abby Magdanz scored 13 to lead a balanced attack for Sacred Heart.  Maggie Goltz had 12 points and 7 rebounds, Elizabeth Magdanz had 11, Lexi Barnes 9 and Jade Hill had 8 points and 7 rebounds. 

Jenny Lawver and Lexi Ryan had 10 points apiece for Friend, now 15-5 on the season. 

The Pawnee City boys won the third place game defeated Diller-Odell 50-33. Sterling placed third on the girls side. The Jets beat Diller-Odell 48-42 in double overtime Saturday.
