Jeff West Tiger Quarterback's Poise & Elusiveness Leads Tigers to 2-0 Start
Ian Mullins

The Jeff West Tigers have started of the season with a bang registering a pair of Big Seven wins over Sabetha, 41-27 and Hiawatha, 21-16 to start season 2-0 and a big part of the Tigers early success has been of a guy who’s held the reins of the offense for three years now.

Senior quarterback, Ian Mullins has been the game-changer for the Tigers in the two wins this season to open the year.

This past week Mullins showed his composure and leadership leading the Tigers in a come from behind win over the Hiawatha Red Hawks. Down 16-7 in the third quarter, Mullins and the Tigers were in pushed into a tight spot with fourth and goal to go, when Mullins displayed his elusiveness and squirmed out of a potential sack twice to toss a 25-yard TD pass to Drew Slimmer, to make it 16-14 with 3:05 to go in the third.

The heroics didn’t stop there for Ian as he lead the Tigers with under four minutes in the game down the field to another spectacular drive, culminating in the winning score via the feet of Mullins from 6-yards out.  But before Ian could get cap the drive off with the TD run, it was another mind blowing fourth down play to keep Jeff West alive, as Ian scramble for 21-yards to continue the drive.

The senior was 9-15 for 210 yards through the air with a pair of TD passes and ran for another in the win over Hiawatha, but it was perhaps his poise, elusiveness and leadership that proved to be the key factors in the Tigers comeback win.

In week one, Mullins posted 122 yards on 5-10 passing for two TD and a TD run in the win over Sabetha.

A three-year starter, guy that has thrown for over 2,000 yards in his career and a guy that has the intangibles you just can’t teach that’s senior Tiger quarterback, Ian Mullins; who has the Tigers off to a quick 2-0 start on the football field this season and looks to continue to make noise in Big Seven this year.
