Silver Lake Softball Captures 3A State Softball Title

The Silver Lake softball team captured the Class 3A State Championship this past weekend in Lawrence. 

The Eagles outscored their tournament opponents 26-6 as they cruised through Colby, Haven, and Southeast of Saline for the 14th state title in school history and first under head coach Nick Hamilton.

The Eagles were the Big East League champions this year with an 18-2 mark while going 28-4 overall. They lost twice to 4A qualifier Wamego, Holton, and Rossville.  

Some notable stats entering the state tournament: Kailyn Hanni: .495 batting average with 43 runs scored and 22 stolen bases. Tyler Swygert: .417 batting average with seven home runs and 39 RBI's. Riley Mohler: .409 batting average with 28 RBI's (113 strikeouts & 1.68 ERA inside the circle). Paige Heiman: Four home runs and 27 RBI's. Savanah Wende: Three home runs and 30 RBI's. Saylor Liggatt had 33 RBI's and 35 runs scored.

Team Stats at State Tournament: 27 hits, 4 2B, 1 3B, 20 RBI, and 17 SB. Defensively they had 57 put outs, 11 assists, 18 strikeouts and only two errors.

Head coach Nick Hamilton: "This was a true team effort from my amazing assistant coaches to the senior leadership and the underclassman playing their roles to their highest ability."
