Charlie Lukert has continued his dominant 2026 track and field season for Sabetha, adding two more league championships to an already impressive resume.
Competing at the league meet this past week, Lukert captured titles in both the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run. He posted a winning time of 2:05.61 in the 800m before following it up with a first-place finish in the 1600m in 4:38.65.
He has won all eight of his 1600-meter races this year and has claimed first place in six of his seven 800-meter races. His top performance in the 800m came earlier this season at Royal Valley, where he recorded a time of 2:02.16. In the 1600m, his fastest mark of the year came at the Sabetha Invitational with a time of 4:34.09.
After earning eighth-place finishes in both the 800m and 1600m at last year’s Kansas State Track and Field Championships, Lukert has taken another step forward during his 2026 campaign. His continued success has positioned him as one of the top distance runners in Class 3A heading into the postseason.
Track Coach Dave Remmers: "He is an outstanding worker in practice, goal oriented, and is dedicated to improving and recording the best times he can achieve. He can make any team better by the display of his work ethic and the example he sets."
