Billy Welch

The beginning of the 2019-20 season was a tough one for the Perry Lecompton boys as the Kaws suffered an 0-2 start after getting just a couple practices under their belts due to the long football playoff run.

Since then though the Kaws have been nearly unbeatable winning nine of their last 10 games including claiming the Valley Falls tournament championship last week behind the strong play of junior Billy Welch.

Welch started his run with a solid performance in the Kaws semifinal victory over Pleasant Ridge where he scored 14 points while pulling down 12 rebounds and dishing out five assists.

He followed that up with a season-high 21-point outing in the championship game win over Jeff County North where he also pulled down nine rebounds and shot 8-of-11 from the free throw line.

On the season Welch is averaging 8.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game while scoring in double figures four times on the year.

He has helped the Kaws off to a 9-3 record to this point including a 5-2 mark in the Big 7 League and will look to help lead Perry Lecompton to a second half run with seven games remaining in the regular season.
