Sabetha Bluejay, Brandon Brownlee Helping Lead Team to State Tournament
Brandon Brownlee

Sabetha Bluejay baseball team is headed to the State tournament after claiming a Regional title last week and moving their record to 20-3 on the season. The Bluejays have found success on the diamond by a true team mentality with several guys contributing this season lead by a strong group of upperclassmen.

One of those upperclassmen is senior catcher, Brandon Brownlee who has been a staple in the lineup and behind the plate all season for Sabetha. Brownlee was a strong presence in the 13-3 Regional Semifinal win over Hiawatha and 10-1 Regional Championship win over Maur Hill-Mount Academy. The senior was 3-3 against Hiawatha with an RBI and walk, while against Maur Hill he drew two walks, had an RBI and reached on an error. Perhaps his biggest impact was behind the plate helping the Bluejay pitching staff pitch a pair of strong games and only surrender one run in Regionals.

Brownlee has been strong behind the plate all season helping the Bluejay pitching staff pitch strong games and has been solid at the plate, too. The senior is batting .426 on the year with 23 hits including seven doubles and had 25 RBI, along with 13 walks. Has the catcher for the team he's helped the Bluejay pitching staff have a team ERA of just over two (2.017). His performance this season has earned him Big Seven League All-League first team honors at catcher.

In just the second year of the program the Sabetha baseball team is headed to the Class 3A State tournament and Brownlee and crew look to finish the season strong and challenge for the State title.
