Valley Falls Dragon, Sway Schmelzle Sprinting & Leaping Past Competition

After making in impact last year as a freshman Valley Falls Dragon sophomore, Sway Schmelzle is putting her fingerprint on the track season in Northeast Kansas thus far showcasing her skills.

Schmelzle and the Dragons track and field team competed at two meets last week and Sway notched six first place performances between the two meets. The Dragon sophomore opened the week in competition at the ACCHS Relays and sprinted to times of 13.04 and 27.54 to win the 100 and 200 meter dash titles and added the long jump crown on top of it behind a leap of 14’08.50.

She followed that performance up by winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the Oskaloosa Invite posting times of 13.17 and 28.24, while also partnering up with three of her teammates to take first in the 4x100 meter relay (57.00). Schmelzle also notched a leap of 14’01.25 to take third in the long jump at the Oskaloosa Invite helping the lady Dragons earn second place as a team overall at the meet.

Earlier in the season to open her sophomore campaign she won the 200 meter dash (27.40) and long jump (15’10) at the Holton Invite, while also taking third in the 100 meter dash (13.34) and 13th in the shot put (19’08).

As a freshman last year Schmelzle qualified for State in Class 2A competition competing in the 200 meter dash at State.

Running and leaping to great start Schmelzle hopes to continue to build upon her start to the track and field season and put forth many more great performances and compete for another trip to State.
