The Centralia Panthers volleyball team started the 2017 season by doing something they have been doing for years that is…..winning.

Panthers pounced on a 5-0 start to open the volleyball season winning the Wabaunsee Invitational for the four-straight year. The Panthers claimed all five wins in straight sets beating Wabaunsee, McLouth and Osage City in pool play then downing Rock Creek in the Semifinals and topping Mission Valley in the Championship.

Helping spear head Centralia’s strong start to the season was the play of senior, Katie Glatczak performing quite well and efficient to open the season. Glatczak who missed most of last volleyball season with an injury was perfect on serves 68 of 68 scoring 52 points with eight aces. She also recorded 21 kills, 55 digs, six stuff blocks, 19 sets with two assists and 28 good serve receptions with only two errors.

The former All-Twin Valley League and All-State player in multiple sports is set to continue her sports career in basketball as Washburn University next year but along with her Panther teammates has her sights set on another strong volleyball campaign for Centralia with another trip to Hays at the end of the year.
