The Axtell lady Eagles came into the basketball season with plenty of goals and rightfully so with so much experience returning, successful season last year and a winning mentality from the great volleyball season.

As the basketball season got underway last week the Eagles hit the court for three games in three days and have started the season 3-0, with wins over Marysville, Lewiston (NE) and Hanover.

Junior, Kiersten Talbot has been big on the floor already in the young season for the Eagles as she has posted a pair of 19 point games and lead or tied for the team lead in scoring in all three games. The junior opened the season with a great all-around game versus a 3A opponent in Marysville as she posted 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, registered four assists and four steals in a 59-47 road win.

The next night the Eagles followed that season opening performance by dominating Lewiston in a 38-5 win and Talbot posted nine points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in the win. In their third game in three day, Axtell picked up the win at home versus Hanover, winning 47-24 and Talbot notched 19 points for the second time this season in three games, netting 14-16 free throws in the game. Kiersten added five rebounds, one assist and one steal on the night.

Flying off to a fast start the Eagles are looking to continue that momentum this season all the way to postseason play later on this year, but Talbot and company know the discipline required for success and Coach Fred Feldkamp will look to keep the team focused throughout the year.
