Axtell Eagle, Colton Buessing Leads Eagle Flight to Open Districts With Win

The Axtell Eagles took flight in District play last Friday night and picked up a win at Frankfort, 62-28 to put themselves leading the pack in the District and a big part of that win was the aerial attack by the Eagles.

Junior, Colton Buessing put on an aerial show with his teammates as he slung the ball all over the field for 365 yards on 23-30 passing, a 76.7% completion percentage and tossed six touchdowns to four different teammates. The junior quarterback didn’t stop with six touchdown passes as he ran for a pair of scores and tossed passes to convert on four two-point conversions in the contest.

Buessing also made his presence felt on the defensive end of the ball as he registered seven tackles and picked up a safety for the Eagles on bring down the Frankfort quarterback on the goal line forcing an intentional grounding call and the safety.

On the season Buessing has been a key contributor in multiple facets as he’s tossed the ball for 911 yards on 71-105 passing (67.6% completion percentage) with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions; while running the ball 69 times for 129 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, Colton has registered 28 tackles and a safety on the season, while on special teams he serves as the punter and is averaging 31.4 yards per punt.

With injuries, young guys stepping into roles, Buessing and a few of his teammates of taken the reigns of Axtell Eagles under Coach Eric Detweiler and have their sights set on the playoffs.
