Pleasant Ridge Rams Pick Up First Win Behind Play Of Junior, Nick Holmes
Nick Holmes

The final score might not show it but the Pleasant Ridge Rams first win of the football season this past Friday didn’t come easy as they beat Jefferson County North 50-30. The Rams had to battle back in the game down 22-20 at the half and 30-20 in the second half, but scored 30 unanswered points to earn the win.

One big factor in that comeback for Pleasant Ridge was the fact the offense posted 498 yards of total offense and junior quarterback, Nick Holmes carried a load on his shoulders in the contest accounting for 308 of those yards on the ground with his legs on 25 carries and scoring five times on those 25 carries. The junior added a 2-7 night passing for 24 yards, but it was his running that helped the Rams to their first win of the season.

Holmes more than double his rushing numbers from week one and two combined in this one game and even provided the most explosive offensive play of the game a 91-yard TD run late in the game, while scoring on plays of 14, 19, 28 and three-yards, also for his five rushing TD’s on the night. The Rams junior churned out 12.3 yards on average every time he ran the ball against JCN.

For the season, Nick has 511 yards rushing on 77 carries and seven TD’s, while being 9-26 passing for 75 yards through three games.

The Rams with the win are 1-2 on the season and opened the year with a tough game against Atchison which they were in until late in the game and lost a close one to Valley Falls in week two. Pleasant Ridge will look to take the win over JCN and build momentum and Holmes will be looked to provide big plays and leadership throughout the year. Pleasant Ridge takes the field under the Friday Night Lights in week four against Immaculata on the road.
