Holton Wildcat, Lucas Lovvorn Helps Lead Wildcats to Back-to-Back 4A Titles
Lucas Lovvorn

Back-to-Back team 4A State championship’s is quite impressive for the Holton Wildcat wrestling squad and they did it in dominating fashion this year, yet again.

Leading the charge with his performance on the mat for the Wildcats was Lucas Lovvorn who followed up his fourth place performance at State at 138lbs as a sophomore, with a State championship at 152lbs this year as a junior.

Lucas went through the State tournament without allowing a single point against himself in his four matches, winning the opening round with a pin in 3:22 and then moving on from the second round with a major decision 8-0 win. In the semifinals Lovvorn posted a 6-0 decision victory moving him a win away from a state title which he captured behind a 5-0 decision victory.

Throughout the season the junior was ranked in the KWCA rankings in his weight class with his highest ranking at number two and he helped lead Holton throughout the season as the Wildcats were the number one team all year in the KWCA 4A rankings.

During the regular season, Lovvorn posted first place individual showings at the Burlington, Baldwin and Big Seven League tournaments, while his team also took home first place during those events. At Holton's home Regional, Lucas posted a 4-0 record with three pinfall wins and a 4-0 decision, to win the Regional title.

The Holton Wildcats capped off another storybook season to remember on the mats for the second straight year and for Lovvorn, it end with a State championship, finishing 39-4 in his junior year.   As Holton and Lovvorn celebrate, he looks to be a senior-leader for the Wildcat wrestlers next year, as they eye a three-peat in 2015.
