Mitchell's Sophomore Season Closes with Runner-Up Finish at State
Nora Mitchell

Rossville sophomore Nora Mitchell has wasted little time establishing herself as one of the best 105-pound wrestlers in the state.

Nora finished runner-up at the state tournament losing to Jentri Porter of Wichita County in the title match by an 8-3 decision. In her three matches prior to the title match, Nora dominated the field with two pin fall wins and one by majority decision.

She finished her sophomore season with a record of 37-12 with 32 of her 37 wins coming by pinfall. Her career record in two years at the high school level is 61-25. Of her 12 losses this season, only two of them were to fellow opponents in 3-2-1A and they were both to the State Champion.

She didn’t start wrestling until her eighth grade year and within a few years, has established herself as one of the top tier wrestlers in her class as an underclassman.

Head coach Bryce Gfeller: “One thing I like the most about her is she is the type of athlete that comes in every day to practice with the want to get better. She asks lots of questions and soaks up any information you give her. She never stops learning and striving to make positive changes where she can. Even when she came off the mat after her finals match, when most girls would want time to cool off and not really want to talk about corrections for next season, she was collected and asking questions wanting to know what she can fix.”
