The Axtell boys basketball team continues to prove why it is considered one of the top programs in Class 1A-II, rolling through the early portion of the season with an undefeated record. The Eagles have shown consistency on both ends of the floor, pairing disciplined defense with efficient offense as they set the tone for another championship-caliber run.
Axtell’s latest statement came Friday night on the road, where the Eagles cruised to a 40-point victory over Washington County. Leading the way once again was Colin Shaughnessy, who delivered a dominant all-around performance against the Tigers. Shaughnessy finished the night with 30 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists, controlling the game from start to finish. He shot an efficient 11-of-17 from the field, knocked down five of his eight attempts from beyond the arc, and was perfect at the free-throw line, going 3-for-3.
Shaughnessy’s performance was no surprise given his steady production throughout the season. He is currently averaging nearly 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists per game, serving as the engine that drives the Eagles’ offense. With strong leadership and balanced contributions throughout the lineup, Axtell will look to maintain its unbeaten start and build momentum heading into postseason play as the Eagles aim to defend their state championship.
