Hiawatha Boys Win & Girls Take Second to Lead Area Performances at Horton Cross Country Invite

With cross country Regionals released and fresh in the mind of competitors and teams across the State the season continued on Thursday and Horton played host to several area teams and runners along with others in competition. 

At the end of the day it was the Hiawatha Red Hawks leading the area performances as the boys took first by four points over Rock Creek. Sabetha boys earned third place, while West Platte and Jackson Heights rounded of the Top five in fourth and fifth. The rest of the boys team finishes saw Marysville, St. Mary's, Mclouth, Valley Falls, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Cornerstone and Horton finish sixth through 12th. 

On the girls side of the competition the Hiawatha girls had the best area performance finishing second behind Rock Creek. St. Mary's, Sabetha and Cornerstone rounded out the Top five girl's team finishes earning third, fourth and fifth place, respectively. Jackson Heights, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Mclouth also competed as teams in the girl's competition finishing sixth, seventh and eighth.

Individually the top times of the day belonged to a pair of Hiawatha Red Hawks as Justin Hodge raced to a time of 20:33.17 to win the boys race by nearly 10 seconds, while Elizabeth Kettler earned gold in the girls race posting a time of 23:52.10 to win by over 1:30. Kate Madsen joined Kettler in the Top five as she posted a time of 25:41.20 to take fifth, while Emma Williams, Mary Rosa and Jasmine Morey placed 11th, 12th and 19th for the lady Red Hawks. Four other Hiawatha boys notched Top 20 performances to help guide the team to first place as Parker Winters and Andrew Lierz finished 13th and 14th, while Taylor Hughes and Liam Jones placed 16th and 17th.

Sabetha Bluejays after Hiawatha had the best team showings on the day as the boys took third and girls fourth. Leading the Bluejay boys on the day was Henry Glynn who posted a time of 21:23.43 to earn fifth place, while Kaden Dillon placed 11th. In the girls competition Hattie Luckert and Megan Meyer placed 13th and 14th for Sabetha and Skyler McAfee earned 18th place. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy was led by Ayden Black who raced to fourth place in the boys competition posting a time of 21:20.24, while his teammate Isaiah Price finished 19th on the day. 

Leading the way for the Mclouth Bulldogs was Baylee Wolfe who with a time of 25:49.60 earned sixth place in the girls race, while Kody Driskill finished 12th in the boys competition. 

Marysville had the lone other area Top 10 finisher on the day at the Horton Invite as Davis Lee placed eighth with a time of 21:34.87 in the boys race. 

Jackson Heights had a trio of runners register Top 20 finishes on the day as Shelby Phillips and Faith Little placed 16th and 20th in the girls race and Dalton Chartier finished 18th. 

Horton, ACCHS and Valley Falls all had runners in action also on the day.
