Tuesday in Wathena there were runs aplenty in the baseball doubleheader between Riverside and Doniphan West a rescheduled showdown from earlier in the season. At the end of the night the Cyclones tallied 39 runs and picked up two wins sweeping Doniphan West with 16-0 and 23-12 wins.

Game one was all Riverside and the Cyclones despite playing at home were the road team as the game was originally scheduled to be a Doniphan West home game and moved to Wathena, because of a schedule conflict. Riverside jumped out early plating seven in the Top of the first on just one hit, taking advantage of three Mustang errors along with three walks and a hit batter. Cyclones joined to bring in the runs notching four hits in the second to get three runs and posted a four spot in the third and two more in the fifth with an RBI double by Josh Mitchell highlighting the inning making it 16-0 at that point and the Cyclones closed out the game to take it in four innings. Doniphan West struggled to get anything going offensively having just four base runners in the contest all via walks.

Nathan Richter and Caleb Liechti combined for the win on the mound pitching two and two-thirds and one and one-third innings, respectively recording a combined six strikeouts and not giving up a hit. At the plate Brock Blair led the Cyclones with 3-3 game and was on base all four plate appearances.

Game two was a crazy one that ended with 35 combined runs scored on 14 combined hits and combined 22 walks. Cyclones once again got rolling early sending eight to the plate in the Top of the first and getting four runs with RBI singles by Cade Wendt and Mitchell highlighting the frame. That lead was short lived as Riverside starter Wendt struggled to find the strike zone and Doniphan West drew nine walks in the first inning and partnering that with a pair of hits churned out 11 runs in the bottom of the first and lead 11-4 after just one inning. Riverside got one back in the second and in the fourth batted around scoring five to draw within one at 11-10. A leadoff walk partnered with some defensive miscues got Doniphan West another run in the bottom of the fourth making it 12-10 entering the fifth inning. Due to pitch county limits Doniphan West starter Zeb Speer was taken out of the game after five innings in which he gave up 10 runs but struck out 11. Riverside took advantage of the pitching change and put up 13 runs on three different Doniphan West pitchers in the Top of the 5th with a two RBI double by Jack Libel and RBI double by Scott Resler highlighting the inning. Doniphan West managed two base runners in the bottom of the fifth but Andrew Miller who came in for Riverside in the bottom of the first shut the door and finished the game for Riverside to win 23-12 in five innings.

Miller in relief went four and two-thirds innings giving up just one run on four walks to earn the win on the mound for Riverside. At the plate both Dawson Butts and Mitchell went 3-5 as Butts scored four runs and Mitchell had four RBI's, while Resler finished 2-3 with four runs scored reaching on an error and walk, also. Doniphan West in the loss got hits from Carter Jenson, Speer and Newt Smith, while eight of the nine batters for the Mustangs drew at least one walk on the day.

The wins mark the first of the season for Riverside as the moved to 2-1 on the year, while Doniphan West fell to 0-7 on the year. Cyclones hit the diamond again on Wednesday, April 12th at Holton for Big Seven action, while Doniphan West is next in action at Valley Falls on Monday, April 17th.
