Emily Maresh (Central City) and Garret Campbell (Santee, Calif.) have been selected as the Bobcat Athletes of the Month for October. Peru State College (PSC) Athletic Director Steve Schneider made the announcement on Thursday.
Emily Maresh - PSC's Female October Athlete of the Month
Maresh was selected as the Female Athlete of the Month after being honored twice this fall by the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) as the conference's Libero of the Week. Earlier in October, Maresh picked up her second weekly honor from the HAAC.
During her senior year, Maresh has made a significant contribution to the PSC volleyball team. At the end of the regular season, Maresh ranked 16th in the NAIA in total digs (642), 17th in digs per set, and 33rd in total service aces (51). She finished the regular season leading the HAAC in digs per game and in conference play. Maresh also was second in total service aces and service aces per set. She will finish her career ranked in three career categories – digs, service receptions, and service aces.
Garret Campbell - PSC's Male October Athlete of the Month
The Bobcats' win over Central Methodist was where Campbell had an impact on defense and specials teams, earning him the HAAC's Special Team Player of the Week and PSC's Male Athlete of the Month. Campbell has had 21 kickoff returns during the season averaging 21.1 yards per return. He has had 23 total tackles – ten of which were solo. In addition, Campbell has had two tackles for a total loss of four yards and leads the team with two interceptions with 96 yards in returns.
“Emily and Garret deserve the recognition for October for their efforts in helping their teams to victories in the month,” said AD Schneider. “They are good examples of student-athletes who are successful, both on the court or field, and in the classroom,” added Schneider.
