(KTNC)--The Peru State Bobcats saw their record fall to 1-3 on the season, after Evangel outlasted the Bobcats, 24-21, in overtime Saturday in a Heart of America Athletic Conference football game at the Oak Bowl.
Peru State got out to a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter, before Evangel came back to take a 14-13 halftime lead.
The Bobcats trailed 21-13 midway through the fourth quarter, when Aaron Smith scored on a 3-yard run, then caught a two-point conversion pass to tie the score at 21-all. That was the score at the end of regulation.
Evangel won the game in overtime, when Cameron Mortazavi connected on a 37-yard field goal to give Evangel the three-point win.
For the game, Evangel out-gained Peru State 305 yards to 279. The Bobcats did most of their damage on the ground, rushing the ball 56 times for 218 yards, while Evangel had 228 of their yards through the air.
Eric Morrison-Smith led Peru State’s rushing attack with 69 yards on 17 carries, including a touchdown. Marcus Spearman had 55 yards on seven carries, Tyler Audsley 49 yards on 12 carries, and Smith finished with 37 yards on 12 carries.
Greg Conry kicked field goals of 35 and 22 yards for Peru State.
The Bobcats are 1-3 on the season, while Evangel improved to 3-1. Peru State will host its homecoming game against Baker University on Saturday.
