In college football Saturday, Peru State fell to Graceland, 27-20, in a back-and-forth game at the Oak Bowl.
The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 13-0 lead, only to see the Bobcats come back to take a 17-13 halftime lead. Aaron Smith scored on runs of nine and six yards and Greg Conry kicked a 24-yard field goal to give Peru State a lead after two quarters.
Smith led a balanced Peru State rushing attack with 80 yards. Bo Shepard had 71 yards and Marcus Spearman had 66 yards rushing.
Graceland regained the lead with a touchdown late in the third quarter, but Peru State tied the game at 20-20 with ten minutes left in the game on a 25-yard Conry field goal. Graceland took the lead for good on a 56-yard touchdown run by Raysean Brown with seven minutes remaining.
The loss drops Peru State to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while Graceland evened its record at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the HAAC.
