(KLZA)-- The Peru State Bobcats open the football season Saturday night, as they play host to the Midland University Warriors at 7 p-m.

The historic Oak Bowl has undergone a $9-million renovation since the last game was played on he field in 2012.

Peru State comes off a 7-4 campaign, ranked 24th in the NAIA Football Coaches Pre-season poll.

Coach Steve Schneider says he is pleased as a coach and administrator with the way the Oak Bowl project turned out.

The Saturday night game will be the first time Schneider has coached against his former school. Schneider played for the Warriors while in college then spent 25 years with the school as a coach and administrator. The Bobcats and Warriors will meet on the field for the first time since 2001.

The game plan for the Bobcats is simple.  Run the ball. Coach Schneider says the Bobcats want to be a physical team and will use the option game to their advantage.

You will be able to listen to the Peru State game Saturday night on A-M 1230, KTNC and SUNNY 101.3.  John Nixon and Randy Gottula will call the action.  Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p-m with kickoff at 7 p-m.
