(KTNC) -  Two student-athletes from Peru State College are the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s nominees for the NAIA’s A.O. Duer Award.
The award is named in honor of A.O. Duer, a former NAIA Executive Secretary. It is presented annually to a junior men’s and women’s student-athlete who has excelled both athletically and academically. Each NAIA conference can nominate one female and one male student-athlete for the award. Selection is based on scholarship, character and playing ability, with nominees required to have an overall grage point average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
Peru State’s Mallory Hull and Logan Paben are the HAAC’s nominees this year.
Hull is a junior early childhood education major and volleyball player from Morse Bluff. She’s a libero on the Bobcat volleyball team, earning second team all-conference honors last season.
Paben is a middle grades education major from Columbus. He was honorable mention all-conference last fall as a cornerback on the Bobcat football team.
Peru State volleyball player Carrie Lierz was the HAAC’s A.O. Duer Award female nominee last year.
The winner of the A.O. Duer Award will be announced in September, during a special video announcement on NAIA National Awards Day.
