Riverside Boys Win Home Track Meet While Oskaloosa Also Competes

The track season opened for a pair of Northeast Kansas area teams in Riverside and Oskaloosa on Tuesday as the Cyclones hosted the Riverside Relays with 10 total schools competing in action.

It was the Riverside Cyclones boys highlighting the day as they claimed first place as a team finishing with 145 points; 40 points better than second place on the day. Oskaloosa boys brought home a fourth place team finish. On the girls side of competition Oskaloosa finished sixth and Riverside eighth in team finishes as KC East Christian Academy took home first place.

Eight different events were won on their home turf by the Riverside boys, while 14 Top three finishes in events were earned overall on the day. Individually, Andrae McGaughy picked up a pair of first place finishes racing to a win in the 400m dash with a time of 53.32, while leaping his way to a win in the triple jump behind a leap of 39'11.50. The Cyclones Relay teams also performed well on the day coming away with first place finishes in the 4x100 with a time of 46.42 and gold in the 4x400 behind a time of 3:42.56, while taking second place in the 4x800. Four other Cyclones picked up gold medals in the first meet of the year with three of the four earning at least one other Top three finishes, also. Bryer Miller sprinted his way to the win in the 100m dash posting a time of 11.02 and took home second place in the 200m dash. With a vault of 10'00, Mason McCall earned first place in the pole vault, while also picking up third place in the 300m hurdles. Cole Hinton also claimed a first place finish, racing to a time of 2:13.50 to win the 800m run and took home third place in the pole vault, while Tre'nez Wilkinson earned the other first place finish for Riverside with a leap of 18'07.50 to win the long jump.

Austin Vogel and Gaige Olivero each brought home a bronze medal for the Cyclones as Vogel took third in the javelin and Olivero placed third in the shot put.

In the girls competition Riverside was highlighted by a pair of second place performances from Andi Meng and Mataya Franken who placed second in the javelin and high jump, respectively.

Four first place performances were brought home for the Oskaloosa Bears between the boys and girls competition at the Riverside Relays. Leading the way was Jaden Courter as she tossed her way to wins in the discus and shot put with throws of 95'09 and 35'11, respectively. Kyle Hopkins and Ben Harvey each brought home a first place finish in the boys competition as Hopkins with a leap of 5'11 won the high jump and Harvey won the javelin with a toss of 140'06. Harvey also finished second in the discus, while Tommy Molder grabbed a second place finish in the 400m dash and Dillon Grother placed second in both the 300m hurdles and triple jump. CJ Kilgo brought home three bronze medals in the girls competition, placing third in the 200m dash, 400m dash and long jump.

Riverside and Oskaloosa each hit the track again on April 7th, as the Cyclones will compete at the Hiawatha Quad with fellow Big Seven teams, while the Bears will play host to teams and compete at their home Invite.
