Atchison’s CJ Huntington put his name into the Phoenix record book last week at the Meadowlark Conference Track and Field meet.
CJ’s mark of 12-feet 5-inches in the pole vault broke the school record that had been held since 1973.
He would go on to finish second in the javelin, fifth in the shot put, and seventh in the discus. He also finished first in the pole vault and second in the javelin earlier this month at a meet hosted by Royal Valley.
Head coach Jordan Malcom on CJ: “CJ is dedicated to his craft and doesn’t let any obstacles get in his way of success. He is kind of the heart of our throwing crew. The coaching staff and I lean on him to lead group workouts and practices."
CJ and the rest of his teammates are getting set for the Class 4A Regional Meet which will take place on Thursday at Eudora.
