Last night the #2 team in class 1A D1, Centralia Lady Panthers, rematched against the #1 ranked team in class 1A D2, Hanover Wildcats, for the second time this season just six days after the TVL championship, where Centralia beat Hanover girls 71-43. The Hanover boys are the #5 ranked team in class 1A D2 and they brought the firepower to the interior last night to take on Centralia.
Girls - Centralia over Hanover 68-61
Last Saturday Hanover finished the first quarter with fourteen points but down by two, last night they had fourteen points to finish the first quarter but were up by eight as the kept Centralia in check on the offensive side to start the game. Hanover hit two threes to start the game from Ally Scheele and Gracie Bruna.
Hanover would out-score Centralia in the second quarter 17-15 go up at the half 31-21. Keelyn Rempe went off from around the perimeter with three threes in the first half for Centralia to keep them in the contest, along with Oen Deters just being held at seven points on the half for the Panthers. Anna Jueneman had yet another great first half performance against Centralia with twelve total points and four boards.
The start to the third wasn’t the most firey start for Centralia and it took them a bit to get some steam, but once they got rolling, they rolled. Centralia out-scored Hanover 23-15 in the third to trail only by two 46-44 heading into the fourth. Tatum Kramer went three-for-three from around the arc in the third quarter alongside Oen Deters adding eight points of her own with a three.
The fourth quarter opened up with a bang from Deters as she hit a deep three from the low wing to take the lead for Centralia 47-46. The beginning of the fourth was back in fourth with multiple tied scores but Centralia would eventually handle business and pull away 68-61. Deters had an outstanding fourth quarter with eleven points total, one three, and a seven-of-seven performance from the charity stripe.
Centralia forced their near game average of twenty-two turnovers against Hanover along with having their usual twelve steals a game. Deters would finish with another twenty-six point game alongside nine boards, four steals, four assists, and a ten-for-eleven performance from the free-throw line. Centralia also had other notable scores from Tatum Kramer with ten, Keelyn Rempe with nine, and Josie Haverkamp with eight points. Anna Jueneman led the scoring for Hanover with nineteen points, six boards, one steal, and two threes. Drew Bruna also had a great game for the Wildcats with sixteen and six rebounds.
Boys - Hanover over Centralia 65-56
A tough battle was to begin between Hanover and Centralia as Quinten Alderfer for the Panthers would start the scoring of the game with a ranged three. The first quarter would end 18-17 in favor of Centralia. Hanover had six points from Braylon Meyn and eight from Kadrick Cohorst in the first quarter, while Centralia had a little more variety in their scorers in the first, Ben Haverkamp led the scoring early with seven points for them.
Centralia lost the lead early but managed to regain it in the second quarter to lead into half 27-22. Defensively this quarter was locked for both sides, but primarily for Hanover as they were limited to just five points in eight minutes.
Hanover took no time to waste and started the third quarter by out-scoring Centralia 12-2 in just the first fourteen points of the quarter, but would end up out-scoring the Panthers 22-12 to end it. Braylon Mein had another six point quarter for Hanover while Cameron Jueneman finally got himself on the board with six points in the quarter.
Hanover would shut the door behind them deep into the fourth quarter with the 65-56 victory, but Centralia was able to draw it as close as three on the quarter. Unfortunately for Centralia both their 6’4 senior forwards fouled out in Duke Timmel and Henry Heidenman and were out most of the fourth together. Braylon Meyn would continue his terror with three threes in the fourth to help Hanover pull off the win.
Braylon Mein finished with twenty-six points, four threes, two assists, and five rebounds. Cameron Jueneman was second in scoring with eleven points and six boards. For Centralia Ben Haverkamp led the night with sixteen points, four boards, and two steals.
Summary
Centralia girls stay undefeated and bump up to 13-0 on the season and 4-0 in league play while Hanover girls drop to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in the league. Hanover Boys step up to 9-4 while remaining undefeated in the league at 5-0 and Centralia boys will be now 7-6 in the season and 3-1 in the league.
