Holton used a 20-0 second quarter blitz to put Jeff West away in route to a 48-9 victory and 2-0 record in district play. The Wildcats fumbled their opening drive at the Tiger five-yard-line and was later stopped on fourth and short to hold a mere 7-3 edge after one quarter. But the Wildcats were unstoppable after that and didn't punt for the second straight week while running for 362 yards in their third consecutive win.
The Holton defense continued to shine with four more takeaways while blocking their third punt in the last two games. The Cats allowed only three Jeff West rushing yards and also had four sacks while also being penalized just twice in the week five contest.
Kyler Jackson led the ground game again with 98 yards on 12 carries while Korban Wilson had 94 yards on 13 totes and Bodie Dillon racked up 74 yards. Andrew Shupe scored a pair of touchdowns as did Jackson, while Wilson, Dillon, and Cael Frazier all found the endzone as well. Alec Frazier had the defensive interception for the Wildcats and Caleb Chermock had the blocked punt while Owen Clayton, Andrew Keithley, and Ean Winsor were among the sack artist. Holton (3-2), who is a couple plays and pair of one-point losses away from a 5-0 start will host Hayden (4-1) in a battle of Wildcats next week for the district title.
The Jeff West offense had not scored since week one and used a double pass trick play to get all nine points at home Friday. With Bodie Thelan taking over at quarterback, he tossed a screen to former signal caller Tucker Holthaus who found Drew Beilman for a 52-yard-pass that led to a Corbin Mayer 26-yard field goal late in the first quarter and the same connection and play that capped the scoring during a running clock in the fourth quarter for a 27-yard touchdown.
The Tigers, who trailed 34-3 at halftime, passed for 265 yards on 33 attempts with Thelan completing 15 of 31 passes for 184 yards. Beilman finished with 116 yards receiving while Jason Payne had 68 yards on three receptions before the Tigers dropped to 0-5 on the season. JW will play at Perry Lecompton (1-4) in another district game next week.
