On Saturday, Doniphan County and Sabetha were set to take on Marysville in non-league action at Sabetha but only Doniphan County was able to play their game against Marysville claiming a 6-1 win. The contest between Sabetha and Marysville was rained out.

Atchison Sweeps Leavenworth to Stay in East Division Race

Atchison stayed in the race to win the East Division of the NEKL remaining within striking distance of Doniphan County after sweeping Leavenworth in a pair of League contests winning 8-0 in six innings and 11-6.

Game one the pitching of Noah Baniewicz led the charge for Atchison as he went six innings giving up just four hits and struck out six, while walking none in the 8-0 shutout six inning win for Atchison. Atchison took the early lead in the game too plating three in the first inning taking advantage of an error and a few hit batters, a two RBI single by Hunter Wahwahsuck highlighted the inning for Atchison. The lead grew in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as Atchison scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth and after three walks in the sixth a run scored on a wild pitch and then another on a groundout to make it 8-0 and ultimately give Atchison the win.

Walks, wild pitches and errors plagued Leavenworth early in game two as Atchison snagged an early 4-1 lead after the first inning and while Leavenworth battled to stay in the game Atchison finished the game with an 11-6 victory. Leavenworth behind a two-run second and another run in the third tied the game at 4-4 but Atchison scored two in the fifth and had a five run sixth to grab the win, as Leavenworth tried with a late push getting two runs across in the seventh but their rally fell short.

Atchison with the wins moved to 10-6 on the season and 9-5 in League play, while Leavenworth fell to 6-22 overall and 2-16 in League action.

Silver Lake Cruises Past Rock Creek in Non-League Double Header

It was plenty of run producing offense for Silver Lake on Friday as they earned a pair of non-league wins over Rock Creek winning 12-2 in four innings and 13-5 in five innings.

A 14-hit attack in game one pushed Silver Lake to the quick 12-2 four inning win over Rock Creek as they out-hit them 14-4 in the contest. Rock Creek took the initial 1-0 lead in the top first but a four-run bottom of the first gave Silver Lake the advantage and they added three runs in the third and finished the game in the fourth with a five run frame. Reid Walker tossed all four innings to earn the win, while Josh Boyd led the offense with three hits and both Garrett Huske and Alex Whitehead each had two hits.

Despite the final in game two being heavily in favor of Silver Lake they had to battle from behind early on against Rock Creek. Just like game one Rock Creek snagged the early lead as they scored three in the top of the first and added two in the top of the third to lead 5-2 going into the bottom of the third. Fortune changed in the bottom of the third as Silver Lake scored five runs and added a run in the fourth and five more the fifth to finish off the game for the 13-5 win. Huske had two hits and three RBI's for Silver Lake, while Kyle Frick registered three RBI's and Drake McMillian had a pair of hits.

With the wins Silver Lake improved their record to 11-13 on the season.

Doniphan County Takes Down Marysville in Non-League Showdown

Behind another strong pitching performance from the arm of Nathan Gaarder, Doniphan County secured their 22nd win of the season beating Marysville 6-1 in Sabetha.

Doniphan County took the early lead with a run in the first and added to that with another in the third and three more in the fourth to lead 5-0 but Marysville broke through in the bottom of the fourth with a run. Another run was added in the sixth for Doniphan County and Gaarder finished off Marysville to help Doniphan County secure the 6-1 win. Gaarder earned the win tossing all seven innings giving up one run on four hits and struck out nine, while helping led the offense with two hits and two RBI's. Cuttar Huss added a multi-hit game and Wil Smith had two RBI's.

The win pushes Doniphan County to 22-2 on the season.

Oskaloosa Takes Fourth at the Alma Tournament

After winning the Alma Tournament last year Oskaloosa returned to the tournament and took on some tough competition this time coming away with a 1-2 mark over the holiday weekend in the tournament to finish fourth.

Game one for Oskaloosa was against the Kansas Senators out of Topeka and while Tyler Moison pitched well to keep Oskaloosa in the game it was ultimately the Kansas Senators earning the 4-2 win. Jared Miller went 2-2 in the loss for Oskaloosa.

Oskaloosa responded in game two to take down the host of the tournament claiming a five inning 9-0 wn over Alma. The offense put things together in the win as Mitchell Sullivan led the way with a 3-3 game, while Justin Shufflebarger, Dalton VanHoutand and Hunter Reed each had a two-hit game.

With a 1-1 pool play action Oskaloosa moved into the third place game against Flint Hills a team comprised of players from Manhattan, Emporia and Council Grove. It was a see-saw affair in the contest and tied 6-6 going into the bottom of the seventh when Flint Hills walked off to earn the win. Reed, VanHoutan and Hopkins led Oskaloosa in the loss each getting two hits, while VanHoutan took the tough loss on the mound but did strike out seven.

The 1-2 weekend for Oskaloosa moved them to 8-16 on the season.
