The Marysville Classic also started on Friday with two NEKL teams in the tourney action. Sabetha continued their strong stretch going 2-1 in the tournament to take second place, while Corning went 1-2, picking up their first win of the season and taking seventh place in the tournament.

The tournament wrapped up Sunday and two League twinbills were taking place also on Sunday as Doniphan County swept Silver Lake and Seneca swept Leavenworth.

Sabetha Earns Second Place & Corning Picks Up First Win Taking Seventh at Marysville Classic

Riding a wave of success Sabetha continued to play well, while Corning struggled to start the 25th annual Marysville Classic but left the tournament on a high note with their first win of the season.

Sabetha built an early lead on Rock Creek in the first round up 3-0, but a four run fourth saw Sabetha give the lead up but only momentarily as they responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. A Kaid Allen RBI single and Joe Gruber sacrifice fly brought in the runs and gave Sabetha the lead back. The hot bat of Allen added another run for Sabetha with his fourth RBI of the game as he had three hits in the contest. Up 6-3 Sabetha looking to finish off Rock Creek didn't have an easy time as Rock Creek loaded the bases in the seventh on an error, hit and walk but Trevor Kramer induce a game ending double play for Sabetha to win 6-4. Kramer partnered with Brett Stallbaumer pitched a solid game for Sabetha in the win.

In the Semifinals it was solid pitching and timely hitting that pushed Sabetha to a 4-3 win over Beloit. Joe Gruber tossed a complete game five-hitter for the win, but Beloit had four of those five hits in the fourth to score three and lead 3-2 at that point. Sabetha responded to capitalize on a Beloit error, using RBI singles from Brandon Brownlee and Preston Bruning regain the lead and ultimately the win.

Concordia stood in front of Sabetha in the Marysville Classic Championship game and while Sabetha held an early lead Concordia proved to be too much gaining the 9-5 win and giving Sabetha a second place finish in the tournament. Up 3-1 early Sabetha saw Concordia snag the lead with a four run second and while Sabetha drew with a 5-4 score in the bottom of the frame, Concordia added three in the third and grabbed the 9-5 win. Kramer pitched four and one-third innings giving up just one run, while Seth Burdick led the offense with two of Sabetha's only four hits. Sabetha with the 2-1 mark in the tournament moved to 12-4 on the season.

Corning went into the tournament in search of their first win of the season and by the end of the action picked up that first win. In the first round the offensive struggles continued for Corning as they took on the eventual tournament winner, Concordia and fell 13-0 in six innings and were no-hit. Jackson Glessner and Dalton Boeckman each pitched two innings in the loss.

In the consolation Semifinals Fairbury was the draw for Corning and the offensive woes continued as Corning mustered only three hits in the contest, while Fairbury made the best of their six hits partnered with eight walks and three Corning errors to win 12-0 in six inning. Braden Deters, Adam Kuckelman and Marshall Ruetti each had a hit in the loss for Corning.

Corning capitalized on three walks in the first inning as Adam Kuckelman had an RBI single to highlight the frame and helped Corning take an early 3-0 lead. Each team posted a tally in the fourth and Corning added two in the fifth with three hits and an error. The pitching of Colton Buessing was strong in the game tossing the complete game giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk, while striking out 11. Offensively, Dustin Talley and Kuckelman each had a two-hit game in the win. The 1-2 performance at the Marysville Classic moved Corning to 1-8 on the season.
