Right out of the Twin Valley League tournament both Centralia and Hanover were back on the basketball court on Tuesday night as the Panthers host fellow TVL team in the Wildcats in a non-league double header and Centralia came away with a pair of impressive wins at home 60-43 for the girls and 65-52 for the boys. The two teams will meet up in Hanover on February 23rd for their League contest.

After a sluggish start to the game for both teams in the girls varsity contest it was Centralia up 11-6 after the first quarter and that lead was nine by halftime at 21-12. Hanover struggled in the first half hitting only six field goals and was 0-7 from three-point range, while the Panthers were led by Mayda Stallbaumer, Chelsea Huerter and Drew Kramer in the first half as the trio scored 18 of the teams 21 points. The scoring picked up in the second half between the two teams and the lead grew for Centralia, too as the Panthers led 39-23 after three quarters and went on to pick up the win 60-43 in the rematch of the TVL Tournament championship from Saturday, which Centralia also won.

Nine three-pointers were hit by Centralia in the game with Kramer pacing Centralia with her best game of the year scoring 17 points, connecting on five three-pointers earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Stallbaumer chipped in 13 points, while Huerter posted a new season high with 12 points and Katie Glatczak who struggled to start the game scoring only one-point in the first half finished with 12 points in the game. The win pushes Centralia to 11-1 on the season and is their tenth win in a row.

Hanover with the loss falls to 9-4 on the season and has lost back-to-back games for the first time this season. Ashton Jueneman led the Wildcats scoring 17 points, while Macy Doebele contributed nine points.

The boys varsity matchup started off as a track meet with high pace and a three-point showcase as the teams combined for 13 three's in the first half, but the second half was all about defense and it was the Centralia defense shutting down Hanover that gave the Panthers the 65-52 win. The lead traded hands in the first half and at intermission with a late first half bucket Hanover led 39-35 over Centralia, led by Trey Loshe who was scorching hot hitting six three-pointers in the first half and posting 21 points. Centralia countered with six three's as a team in the first half.

Panthers started the second half with an 8-0 run that spanned four plus minutes in the third and when the third quarter ended Centralia outscored Hanover 16-4 and led 51-43. That lead continued to grow in the fourth quarter as the Panthers clamped down on the defense even more and held Hanover scoreless until under three minutes to play in the fourth as Centralia went on to secure the win.

The duo of Braden Deters and John Johnson each notched 19 points on the night and each had big quarters for Centralia as Johnson scored nine of his 19 in the first and Deters posted eight in the second. The tandem earned co-Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA as Centralia snapped a two-game losing streak and moved to 9-3 on the year. Dustin Talley added 11 points on the night.

Hanover with the loss fell to 9-4 on the season and had only four guys score on the night led by Loshe who finished with 21 points, as he was shutout in the second half. Will Bruna and Michael Jueneman both also finished with double figures for the Wildcats posting 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Next up for Centralia is a tough non-league showdown at home against Rock Creek on Tuesday, February 2nd, while Hanover hits the court again on Friday at Axtell in TVL action (Hanover at Axtell game will be on 92.1 KMZA)
