 Troy 46 - Doniphan West 19

Although the Trojans could not put Doniphan West away until the fourth quarter, Troy was never really in danger on way to beating their County rivals for the third straight season.  With an impressive running attack that produced 426 yards and an offense that ran 87 total plays, Troy (6-1) won for the sixth game in a row this season and secured a District Title and home playoff game in November.

Troy led 16-0 at the end of one quarter as former Mustang, Kortin Blevins, scored on a fourth and goal carry from the one-yard-line and Reid Greaser hit Cuttar Huss for a nine-yard-pass, while adding a rushing and two-point pass play to Brody Winder.  The Mustangs came back however with a pair of long touchdown passes by Levi Watts to Lane Spiker for 24 yards and Garrett Dunlap on a 57 yard TD strike, right after Luke Blevins had intercepted a pass for D-West with one minute to play in the first half.

Leading 16-12, Troy got a team safety on a high punt snap out of the back of the Mustang endzone and then took advantage of a short 50 yard field to drive and score on a 15 yard run by Alex Martinez to lead 24-12.  D-West again rallied to make it a 24-19 game heading into the fourth quarter as Watts found Spiker again on a 65 yard pass to beat single coverage down the sideline.

Yet, the fourth quarter belonged to the visiting Trojans as they scored three times and took advantage of a couple huge Doniphan West turnovers and mistakes to pull away for the win.  Blevins added another one and a 17 yard TD to finish with 126 yards on 28 carries and a trio of scores, earning Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha "Player to Bank On" honors.  Huss scored the final TD on a 24 yard run and had 102 yards rushing and 66 receiving on 8 catches.  Martinez also broke the century mark with 117 yards on 12 totes and Greaser added 75 yards on the ground himself while throwing for 98.  Reid added a pair of two point pass plays to Tyler Scherer and Chris Winkel.  Wil Smith had a huge sack for Troy in the final stanza and was recognized as Denison State Bank "Lineman of the game," along with Tucker Morris,  Luke Smith, Ben Wardlow and Wyatt Huss for paving the way in the trenches and giving the Trojans an advantage up front on both sides of the football.

Doniphan West got some big plays rushing by Carson Lackey, who finished with 98 of his115 yards on just 12 carries in the first half.  Watts was 7 of 21 passing for 182 yards with a trio of touchdowns.  Yet, leading target, Cooper Leach, was held without a single reception for the first time all season and the Mustangs ran only 44 total plays while failing to convert on 10 third down tries.  The Mustangs are 3-4 on the season and after hosting Christ Prep next week, will travel to JCN for a win-to-get-in district runner-up spot and playoff apparance for the second straight year.
