Centralia Girl's & Washington County Boy's Claim Team TVL Cross Country Titles

The Twin Valley League cross country meet featured a multitude of great performances from all 11 schools competing in the League meet on Thursday at Troy.

The top team performances were garnered by the Washington County Tiger boys and Centralia Panther girls. In the boys competition Washington County finished the day with seven guys in the Top 20 and posted 29 points to claim the TVL title by 30 points, over Onaga who placed second as a team. The Wetmore Cardinals took third place as a team just behind Onaga, while Frankfort, Axtell, Valley Heights and Centralia rounded out the team performances placing fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

In the girl's competition the Centralia Panthers had four Top 20 finishers and posted 22 points to beat out Axtell by five points to win the TVL title and the Eagles took second place. Washington County and Frankfort placed third and fourth as teams in the girl's competition.

Pacing the way for the lady Panthers of Centralia to claim the girl's TVL team title was the first place performances of Sadie Jones who posted a time of 17:29.91, winning by over 30 seconds. While her teammate, Kaitlyn Becker notched 10th place behind a time of 20:09.48 and Hayley Ross and Madison Boeckman placed 14th and 15th, respectively for the Panthers with times of 20:48.18 and 21:02.61. Dylan Boeckman notched the only boy's Top 20 finish for the Panthers as he raced his way to ninth place behind a time of 19:14.09.

For Washington County the strong senior season continued for Dylan Hodgson as he paced the Tigers to the boys League title, finishing with the best individual time, 17:30.66 to claim first place. His teammates, Kyle McGatlin and Eric Miller both finished in the Top 10 placing sixth (19:06.90) and ninth (19:19.43), respectively. Four more Tigers also finished in the Top 20 as Jefferson Simmons, Joe Stegman, Martin Walter and Wyatt Durst placed 13th (19:57.28), 14th (20:04.35), 18th (20:25. 84) and 20th (20:37.97). The lady Tigers grabbed a pair of Top 20 finishers at League with Madison Stone and Cheyanne Helms placing 11th (20:24.85) and 13th (20:43.48), respectively.

The Onaga Buffaloes had a strong showing in both the boy's and girl's competition at League with multiple Top 10 finishers. Leading the way on the boys side of competition was junior, Michael Eisenbarth who raced to a third place finish with a time of 18:35.00, while Luke Marten placed seventh behind a time of 19:07.32. In the girl's competition the Buffaloes saw two more Top 10 finishes on the day as Maddie Revell took third place (18:48.48) and Alexis VanDonge notched seventh (19:35.25).

Second place in the boys race was earned by Frankfort Wildcat, Brodric Shirley who continues a strong freshman year posting a time of 18:13.92 for second, while his teammate, Alex Roeder placed 15th (20:07.80) for the Wildcats. In the girls race Alina Wehrkamp posted the best Wildcat performance racing to 12th place (20:32.25), while Amburley Kokoruda finished 20th (22:07.11).

Axtell Eagle, Chelsea Smith posted the best Axtell girls performance at the TVL meet racing her way to fifth place in the girl’s competition behind a time of 19:00.25. As Susan Peschel and Paige Menninga both tallied Top 20 finishes also in the girls race finishing ninth (19:56.90) and 19th (22:01.45), respectively. While the best individual performance by an Eagle at the TVL meet came in the boys race with Burke Deters racing his way to fourth place behind a time of 18:48.34. Oliver Schmitz and Khristian Scheibe grabbed 11th (19:39.28) and 19th (20:36.96) in the boy’s race, respectively.

The Wetmore Cardinals finished the League meet with five Top 20 finishers between the boys and girls competition. In the boys race Aaron Achten took home 10th place (19:20.71), while Jeremy Hoelscher placed 12th (19:56.17) and Layne Hodge placed 16th (20:14.36). In the girl's race Elizabetha Hutfles notched the best showing placing sixth with a time of 19:28.38, while Corinne Haverkamp placed 17th (21:32.24).

Doniphan West Mustangs had a pair of Top 20 finishers both coming in the girl's race as Mackenzie Boos finished eighth with a time of 19:54.21 and Kassydi Miller placed 16th with a time of 21:21.16. While Valley Heights had three Top 20 finishers at League with Ilexus Rose placing fourth in the girl’s competition with a time of 18:55.07, while Adrain Pishny and Alex Hardin finished fifth (18:48.59) and 17th (20:15.46), respectively.

Hanover's best performance came from Claire Zarybnicky who raced to second in the girls race behind a time of 18:03.75. While, Clifton-Clyde Eagle, Abby Sikes placed 18th for the best Eagle performance with a time of 21:47.21. Troy did not have a Top 20 finisher on the day as they best performance was a 26th place by Alaine Stock in the girl's race.

Next up Regionals for many of the TVL teams, while a few will compete one final time in regular season action on Tuesday, October 21st before Regionals.
