Atchison takes third in Doniphan County Tournament

Atchison falls to Falls City 11-6 in game one

Falls City started off the game with five runs in the first two innings off 3 errors commited by Atchison. The A's responded with two runs in the third off three straight singles from Cody Calhoon, Johnny Kane and Jake Schmidt. 

In the fourth, Derek Belveal walked and was driven in by Ben Ervin's double to deep centerfield. Atchison trailed 5-4 going into the sixth inning. Falls City broke its silence with one run to put the score at 6-4. The final inning was the difference maker as Falls City's offense exploded for five runs to lead 11-4. The A's didn't help themselves commiting four errors. Atchison tried to rally, but fell short, losing 11-6.

Mark McDermed pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs. He recorded nine strikeouts, gave up 10 hits and had one walk. Hunter Olberding pitched the seventh inning and gave up two earned runs out of five scored in the inning. Atchison had 10 errors for the game.

Atchison scrapes by Doniphan County with 4-3 victory

Doniphan County knocked in two runs to start the game. Colton Masters recorded a sacrifice fly to score Quenton Munger. Then Colton Munger doubled to score Winkel. DC followed up the two-run start with one run in the second to lead 3-0. 

Atchison finally broke free in the fourth inning on Hunter Olberding's second homerun on the season. After four innings, the score was 3-1. Atchison went on to use three singles to score two-runs in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Then Jimmy Priest stepped to the plate and belted a single into the outfield to score Jake Schmidt, the game-winning run.

Ben Ervin pitched all seven innings to earn the victory. He gave up 10 hits, walked two batters and had four strikeouts. Mark McDermed also recorded two hits.
