Jordan Schaardt Wins HAAC Women's Golf Title for Peru State

 After leading by three strokes at the end of the first 18 holes and then not shooting as well in the second 18, Peru State Bobcat senior Jordan Schaardt (Humboldt) found herself in a playoff for the medalist of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship. 

After three playoff holes, Schaardt emerged as the champion and will represent the HAAC, along with team from Baker University, as participants in the NAIA Women’s Golf Championship that will be held on May 21-24. The site of the national championship is the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb., with Doane College serving as the host school.

Schaardt shot an 87 on Monday and came back with a 96 on Tuesday to finish in a tie with Rebecca Holder of Baker at the end of regulation. It took a three-hole playoff to determine the champion with Schaardt emerging victorious.

As a team, Peru State finished in a disappointing fourth place. Baker University won the championship with a two-day total of 747, having shot rounds of 375 and 372. Finishing second was Central Methodist University with 766 with Graceland University finishing third with 768. The ‘Cats finished with a two-day total of 787. The other team finishes included: fifth – Culver-Stockton College – 795, sixth – Avila University – 801, and seventh – Missouri Valley College – 929.

Courtney Musgrave (Omaha) finished 10th with a two-day total of 190, shooting 96 and 94. Katie Potter (Omaha) finished in a tie for 16th, shooting rounds of 97 and 96 for a total of 193. Jacey Stoner (Alda) finished in a tie for 26th, having shot rounds of 109 and 112 for a 221 total.

Schaardt was pleased with her championship and said, “It was such a rush to win – that is one thing for sure!”
