Former Nemaha Central standout Laura Macke is our newest Blast from the Past athlete presented by the Netawaka Fitness Center.
Macke is currently in her junior season on the Kansas State women’s basketball team and has played in all four games for the Lady Cats this season with two starts averaging 6 points and nearly 4 rebounds per game.
The Lady Cats are off to a 2-2 start to the year with Macke’s biggest game to this point being an 8-point effort in 26 minutes in a 60-49 loss to Kentucky who is ranked in the top 15 in the country.
In her career to this point as Kansas State she has played in 63 total games with three starts and has shot 48 percent from the floor while shooting over 70 percent from the free throw line last season in 24 attempts.
She was a 2020 Academic All-Big 12 First Team member, was named to the 2018-19 Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team and has made the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll twice.
In her time at Nemaha Central Macke earned all-state in her junior and senior seasons, averaging 17.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game as a senior while going over 1,000 points.
In her junior season she helped the Thunder to a fourth-place finish at the state tournament averaging 5.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.4 steals leading Nemaha Central to a 20-5 record.
Macke now will look to continue to contribute big minutes for the Lady Cats have games Thursday, Saturday and Monday before opening Big 12 play Friday, Dec. 18 traveling to Iowa State.
