Former Sabetha Bluejay Taryn Schuette Part of Concordia Women's Basketball NAIA National Championship
Taryn Schuette

After experiencing plenty of success at Sabetha High School, former Bluejay Taryn Schuette continued to see success at the collegiate level as last season in her sophomore campaign at Concordia University the Bulldogs finished runner-up in the NAIA DII National Tournament.

Schuette played sparingly on last season’s runner-up team, but it all proved to be worth it as Tuesday, March 12 the Concordia women’s basketball team got revenge by winning the National Championship with a 67-59 win over Southeastern University.

The former Bluejay played in 32 games this season and averaged 3.8 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while also shooting over 73 percent from the free throw line.

Schuette scored over 10 points three times this season, including leading the team in scoring with 17 points in an early season win over Peru State.

In high school she was a key piece to some of the most successful girls teams that Sabetha has seen, helping the Bluejays to multiple Big 7 League titles including a fourth place finish at the 3A state tournament in 2015 and a runner-up finish in 2016.

She earned Big 7 all-league honors three of her four years in high school and was an honorable mention all-state selection her junior and senior years.

Schuette now looks to build upon her experience from the past two seasons at Concordia and take on a bigger role next season in the Bulldogs defense of a NAIA DII National Championship.
