The Nemaha Central volleyball team clinched the first ever Big East League title in 2024 on Tuesday night with a home sweep over Sabetha and Riley County.

The matchup against the Bluejays was a league contest with the Thunder winning 25-11, 25-21 and then they would close out the night with a 25-17, 25-11 non-league match against Riley County.

The Thunder captured the league title with a record of 9-1 (33-4 overall) with their only league loss back in September against Silver Lake.

Silver Lake, Holton, and Royal Valley were the next three teams up in the standings behind Nemaha Central for the first go around in the new league.

The Thunder had back-to-back Big 7 league titles before the start of this season so that gives them three straight league championships.

The Thunder will close out their regular season next Tuesday at Silver Lake with a triangular.

Nemaha Central appears to be nearly locked in to a top seed in one of the four Class 3A regional brackets which are set to be released in the coming days.
