The Hiawatha Legion baseball team dominated Concordia 13-4 on Thursday afternoon to earn their first win at the State Tournament in Topeka.

Hiawatha's offense put the game away in a three inning stretch and also got a good start from Ashton Rockey.

They scored two runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, and six runs in the sixth. Rockey pitched five innings and allowed three runs and six hits. He also had a stretch where he retired nine straight batters between the second and fourth innings.

At the plate, Rockey finished 2 for 4 with a double, walk, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Carson Bredemeier also provided a spark offensively as he went 3 for 5 with two RBI's and two runs scored.

Joel Bryan flashed with a two-RBI triple in the fifth while Sam Dunn, Tyler Willich, and Alex Rockey all contributed with RBI singles.

The win gives Hiawatha with a 1-1 record in pool play with one game to go on Friday against Iola. The game was originally scheduled to start at 2:00 PM but Leavenworth backed out so the game was moved up to an 11:30 AM start time.

Larned and Concordia will play in the first game at 9:00 AM with Larned holding a 1-1 record in pool play while Concordia is 0-2.

Iola won their first two games, so they've secured their spot in Saturday's Semi-Finals.

The game will be broadcasted live on KNZA 103.9 FM
