Sacred Heart Basketball Coach Named National Coach of the Year

(KLZA)-- The National High School Athletic Coaches Association has named Falls City Sacred Heart Coach Doug Goltz as the Boys Basketball Coach of the Year.

Goltz was presented the honor Wednesday, June 22 during the organizations 56th Annual National Awards Banquet in Des Moines, Iowa.

There were eight other finalists for the award.

Goltz called it a tremendous honor and said the National Banquet is quite humbling. Goltz said the accomplishments of the 8 women and men finalists in the 19 different categories are remarkable.

Some of the coaches are still coaching after 40 and 50 years.

Goltz said he is thankful to be chosen as the NHSACA Boys Basketball Coach of the Year and to be at the banquet among some of the greatest coaches in the country.

In 36 seasons as the Irish Head Basketball Coach Goltz teams have won a state record 11 state titles and won 719 games which makes him the all-time winningest coach in Nebraska High school boys basketball history.

Goltz has been a NHSACA Coach of the Year finalist in both basketball and football twice.
