Troy Girls and Cobra Boys Win DVL Games

GIRLS = Troy 62, Jackson Heights 29

BOYS = Jackson Heights 74, Troy 54

GIRLS
The Troy girls scored the first 10 points of the game and were never threatened in route to a convincing win and fourth quarter running clock.  The Lady Trojans made four treys to take an early 16-4 lead and forced Jackson Heights into 28 turnovers on the night.  Claire Turpin was named "Citizens State Bank and Trust Company 'Player to Bank On,'" leading the way with 13 points while fellow senior forward Paige Fenley added 11.  Kelli Marriott and Alaine Stock combined for five trifecata's and 17 total points on the night as Troy improved to 4-1 in the DVL and 5-3 overall.  Jackson Heights had several shots that just wouldn't fall in the first half but made 9 of 10 free throws to climb within 25-15 halftime.  The young Cobras (0-9) played four freshman and four sophomores and one senior getting 10 points from frosh Kaitlyn Strube and 9 from Jessica Keehn in the loss.

BOYS

Despite taking an early 11-4 lead, Jackson Heights trailed 22-19 after one quarter.  The Cobras started the second stanza on a 12-0 run and would never look back in route to a second convincing with win 70-plus-points to start 2013.  The athletic forwards inside were too much for Troy to handle as Cameron Thomas scored 23 points and fellow junior Preston Richter added 17.  Thomas was the "Player to Bank On" sponsored by Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha.  The Cobras led 38-25 at the break after winning the second quarter 19-3.  Troy was plagued by early foul trouble and Jackson Heights capitalized by hitting 13 of 19 free throws in the first half.  Caleb Niehues added 12 points and hit three of the Cobras shots behind the arc as the visitors overcame 23 turnovers in the win.  Jackson Heights is now 3-2 in the DVL and 6-3 overall while Troy dropped to 4-4 and 2-3 in league play.  Collin Jasper struggled to post 13 points for the Trojans while Jake Ross added 12.
