Jackson Heights Boys Out Shoot Troy to Head to 2A State Tourney

The Jackson Heights Cobras haven't had a problem scoring points this season and that proved to be the case on Saturday night as the Cobras struck for a 76-61 win over Troy for the Class 2A Sub-State title at Valley Falls.

Jackson Heights came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and took the early lead, only to see Troy take a lead in the first quarter for a moment, until the Cobras pushed back ahead leading 20-15 after the the first period. The Cobras struck again to start the second quarter with an early 6-0 run and push their lead up to double figures, but Troy brought the lead back down as Jackson Heights led 39-31 at halftime. The margin grew for Jackson Heights again in the second half, but Troy had runs in them, also making it a 51-44 game going into the fourth quarter. Troy started the fourth by cutting the lead to three but a 8-0 run by Jackson Heights followed and the Cobras grabbed the 15-point win.

The loss ends the Troy Trojans season at 19-5 and Collin Jasper paced the way for Troy in the loss with a 25-point performance, while Wil Smith added 13 points for the Trojans.

Jackson Heights with the win improved to 21-2 on the year and cruises into the 2A State Tournament riding a 12-game winning streak, making the State competition for the first time since 2007. Zane Richter paced the Cobras with 28 points, while Wyatt Olberding chipped in 21 points for Jackson Heights.

The Cobras will head to the 2A State Tournament next week at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan and open up the State tournament on Wednesday.
